Rejection of Additional Qualifying Medical Cannabis Means Illinois Patients Will Continue to Suffer

Mapleglen Care Center is deeply disappointed with Governor Rauner’s recent and repeated rejection of the additional qualifying conditions as put forth by his own Medical Cannabis Advisory Board. As the administration lifts the legal ramifications on illegally grown, carried, and used medical marijuana, tens of thousands of disease suffering, law abiding citizens are again excluded from accessing medicinal cannabis. The ongoing rejection of the board’s recommendations makes little sense.
There is no difference in the pain, suffering and disability in those afflicted with Crohn’s Disease, Ulcerative Colitis, or Irritable Bowel Syndrome, yet only those with Crohn’s are allowed the compassion to legally access medical cannabis. The amount of pain and suffering and disability of those afflicted with Psoriatic Arthritis or any other inflammatory joint disease, is no different than those suffering from Rheumatoid Arthritis and yet only those with Rheumatoid Arthritis are allowed the compassion to access cannabis as medicine.
Ultimately, it makes little sense to have compassion for the pain, suffering, depression and insomnia in those few patients with Syringomyelia, while ignoring the suffering of a much wider range of patients that might qualify under the board’s recent recommendations.
Mapleglen strongly shares the opinion of the 80% of Illinoisans that the program should be and needs to be expanded. While disappointed with the current decision, Mapleglen Care Center continues to strongly standby its mission to provide the highest quality medical cannabis to qualifying patients and Mapleglen is hopeful that additional observation of the program by the administration will support future decisions that are more…Compassionate.
